A junior minister, Richard Willey, plans to spend the night in a London hotel with Jane Worthington, one of the opposition’s junior secretaries.

In typical Cooney style, things don't work out for our hapless hero: a temperamental sash window and an assortment of characters ranging from a wily hotel worker whose seen it all before, a pompous hotel manager and a parliamentary private secretary amongst others - oh and a dead body - contrive to make Richard's relaxed tete-a-tete anything but.
